Benefits of Alkaline Water

The U.S. EPA has set standards for more than 80 contaminants that may occur in drinking water and pose a risk to human health. Some common waterborne contaminants include Aluminum, Ammonia, Arsenic, Cadmium, Fluoride, and many more.

 

Microbial and organic contaminants cannot always be detected by the human senses. You might go years before realizing a problem exists. Many folks never become suspicious until people in the community start to get sick. Water near agricultural areas may contain harmful organic material from Pesticide or fertilizer application. Chemicals from pesticides and fertilizers in water may increase cancer risk and reproductive problems and can impair eye, liver, kidney, and other body functions.

 

 

 

 

What is Alkaline water?

 

The “Alkaline” in alkaline water refers to its pH level. A pH level is a number that measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is on a scale of 0 to 14. For example, something with a pH of 1 would be very acidic and something with a pH of 13 would be very alkaline.

Studies suggest that the pH is the primary determinant of beverage erosive potential. The pH of 380 beverages was determined and assessed for relative erosivity. Relative beverage erosivity zones based on previous studies of apatite solubility in acid indicated: 39% (150/380) of the beverages tested were considered extremely erosive (pH < 3.0); 54% (205/380) were considered erosive (pH 3.0 to 3.99); 7% (25/380) were considered minimally erosive (pH ≥ 4.0).

The most acidic beverages tested with a pH < 2.4 were: lemon juice (pH 2.25), RC Cola (pH 2.32), Coca-Cola Classic (2.37), Coca-Cola Cherry (pH 2.38), Pepsi (pH 2.39)Guandolo Soda Pop (3.20).

 

Alkaline water has a higher pH level than regular drinking water. Because of this, some advocates of alkaline water believe it can neutralize the acid in your body.

Normal drinking water generally has a neutral pH of 7. Alkaline water typically has a pH of 8 or 9. However, pH alone isn’t enough to impart substantial alkalinity to water.

Alkaline water must also contain alkaline minerals and negative oxidation reduction potential (ORP). ORP is the ability of water to act as a pro- or antioxidant. The more negative the ORP value, the more antioxidizing it is.

Stay hydrated: The size of the water molecular cluster reduces by two-thirds when the water is ionized. Smaller water clusters have more mobility to penetrate the cellular membrane and remove wastes in the body.

 

 

 

 

Balanced pH in the body: Ionization increases the level of pH in the body. Also, the negative OPR in ionized water is antioxidant and helps to get rid of toxins, acids, and free radicals.

 

 

 

 

Increase in energy: Alkaline antioxidant water improves the absorption of nutrients, cleanses the body and prevents the accumulation of heavy metals, toxins, and free radicals. Increases blood oxygen: Drinking ionized water increases the amount of oxygen in the blood. Antioxidant, ionized alkaline water has an abundance of hydroxyl ions (OH-) that can combine with the unstable oxygen in free radicals resulting in stable oxygen molecules.

Normalizing blood sugar: Alkaline water has been suggested to normalize blood sugar, insulin level, and blood pressure. It also promotes healthy colon function and improves urinary tract infections. Alkaline water is great for people who are trying to overcome diabetes. In fact, many people have reversed their diabetes by eating 100% organic raw food (vegetables and raw nuts and no meat and no eggs) and drinking alkaline water for 60 days.  

 

 

Alkaline water is somewhat controversial. Many health professionals say there isn’t enough research to support the many health claims made by users and sellers. Differences in research findings may be related to the types of alkaline water studies.

According to the Mayo Clinic, regular water is best for most people. They state that there is no scientific evidence that fully verifies the claims made by supporters of alkaline water.

However, there are a few studies that suggest alkaline water might be helpful for certain conditions.

For example, a 2012 study found that drinking naturally carbonated artesian-well alkaline water with a pH of 8.8 may help deactivate pepsin, the main enzyme that causes acid reflux.

Another study suggested that drinking Alkaline ionized water may have benefits for people who have high blood pressurediabetes, and high cholesterol.

A more recent study that included 100 people found a significant difference in whole blood viscosity after consuming high pH water compared to regular water after a strenuous workout. Viscosity is the direct measurement of how efficiently blood flows through the vessels.

Those who consumed high pH water reduced viscosity by 6.3 percent compared to 3.36 percent with standard purified drinking water. This means blood flowed more efficiently with alkaline water. This can increase oxygen delivery throughout the body.
